Our Mission
It was seven years ago when President George E. Taylor saw the need to help homeless veterans and other men by allowing them to stay in his rental property in Oak Cliff – Dallas, TX. With this desire, he later partnered with his friends Daniel and Dinah Simington, and the Verna’s H.E.L.P. Foundation organize a joint venture to help the homeless men population within Dallas County.
On June 26, 2019, all board members of the foundation unanimously voted to implement the T.S. RECUPERATIVE CARE of NORTH TEXAS, a Skilled Nursing Facility for homeless veterans, veterans with previous offenses (see program guideline exclusion criteria), and other men. They will implement the first facility in Texas to help these men after being discharged from Dallas County hospitals. They are eager to purchase in Dallas County a single to multi family home by November 5, 2019, a TYPE A facility for maximum 16 people; with future plans to expand in 2020 for more space and additional bedrooms to house 17 to thirty men after renovation. The home will provide 24-hour monitoring with administrative, nursing, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance and transport staff. There will be 24-hour shelter beds for people who are too well to be in the hospital but too sick to recuperate on the streets.
T.S. RECUPERATIVE CARE of NORTH TEXAS is a unique program that ensures the patients will have a place to stay to properly recover and avoid returning to the emergency room. As a result, the program will greatly reduce hospital costs by taking homeless clients, veterans and ex-offenders from hospital beds and into our care. This effective model of care shows outcomes with 50% fewer re-admissions within 90 days of being discharged to Recuperative Care than patients who are discharged to their own care.
